Kiani is involved with several on-campus publications and tries to include her love of the visual arts in every aspect of her life. She encourages first years to not only continue to pursue the things they know they love but to also become acquainted with the things that interest them only a little or even scare them.

Alycia is actively involved in Columbia University Sewa, Culinarian Magazine, and works for the Office of Pre-College Programs. Academically, she has a particular interest in South Asia and spent her gap year living, working, and trying to speak Hindi in New Delhi, India. In her free time, Alycia can be found rollerblading, dancing to Bollywood jams, and ogling food blogs.

Aviva is aggressively unfancy. She loves to dance and watch funny YouTube fail videos with her brother. But beware: Aviva may entice you with her hakuna-matata, worry-free way of living life. She has traveled with the Columbia Mock Trial Team, played prop for Women's Rugby Football Club, and worked as a speaking Fellow.

Jenny will be in London first semester. She spends most of her time off-campus performing musical theater and working as a Speaking Fellow. For new RAs she recommends programming with food and not being afraid to give out that number!

Lily is undeniably a Cat Person, and spends most of her home-time photographing her 25-lb cat, Tubby. As a transfer student to Barnard, she is excited to vicariously experience FYF as an RA. Her advice to an incoming Barnard woman can be summed up as follows: leave your door open as often as possible (to be interpreted literally and pseudo-metaphorically), and with any luck, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the things you encounter.

Stefani is a proud member of the class of 2016 and is currently majoring in Unafraid with a concentration in Undecided. Her academic interests include, but are not limited to: linguistics, religion, psychology, urban studies, and sociology. She loves learning languages and has studied French, Spanish, Japanese, and Greek! On a practical level, she encourages incoming freshman to READ, READ, READ. Not only is it good to keep your brain in shape over the summer, but also, the more you read-- the more you know!

Isabel is a member of the Columbia Parliamentary Debate Society, and spends a couple afternoons per week babysitting. She is very excited to begin planning events for first year residents because she thinks first experiences at Barnard are some of the most important. She can't wait for 2013-2014!

Ashiana enjoys chatting, the outdoors, and watching movies (with popcorn). In addition to the whole school thing, she is also the junior rep to the board of trustees. Her hope for the first years is that they don't stress too much about grades and find some time to enjoy their classes, make friends, and figure out Barnard.

Andrea is the social chair for Q, Barnard's only LGBTQA group on campus. She also writes for the Barnard Bulletin. Off campus, Andrea has an internship at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU's Law School, which she will be continuing this Fall semester. She is very excited to be living on Sulz/Reid 4 this semester and meeting her new first year residents.

Eva is an Associate Editor for the Columbia Daily Spectator and mostly writes about Upper West Side politics. For first years at Barnard, she recommends getting into a daily routine as soon as possible because it will make homework easier to handle and decrease stress in general!

Cassie will be writing a play this year for her thesis. On campus, she is also the president of the Columbia Lutherans, and loves performing with various theatre or dance groups. She enjoys baking chocolate things, reading trashy novels and listening to Taylor Swift. Her best advice for first years comes in two parts: one, don't worry if college is different from what you expected it to be-- you are NOT doing anything wrong, you are just finding your way!

Darcy plays the violin and likes to write letters, do yoga, and make crafts. Last summer, she worked at a children's science museum picking up after kids, and at an entomology lab taking care of oxyopidae, a genus of jumping spiders. Darcy is a member of the Canterbury Club (the Episcopalian group on campus), Student Worker Solidarity, and Sewa (the Sikh student association); and babysits for the cutest darn kid you've ever seen.

Jessica's favorite celebrity couple is Ellen and Portia and she loves loves loves cheese! Words of wisdom to first years at Barnard: don't rush into friendships because you're afraid to be alone. Not to say that you shouldn't try to make friends. Of course, you should! But don't commit yourself to a group of people right away just because you're scared of being a loner.

Isamar loves Dance! When she is not taking dance and salsa classes, she is constantly exploring the city. Isamar is a member of the HEOP program, which she loves dearly. She loves encountering new people, cultures, and languages. Word of advice: do not be shy. Be open-minded about the people you meet because they may turn into your new best friends.

Adriana is an active member of the community, working for admissions and the Barnard Store. She has participated in various multicultural organizations such as Black Heritage Month Committee for the past two years, Multicultural Advisory Admissions Committee, and others. She was a global fellow for the Global Symposium in Brazil and started a women's, gender & sexuality consciousness/awareness group.

Maame Yaa is a member of the African Students Association and enjoys debating on a myriad of issues at different campus groups meetings. She is really looking forward to working on different programs with the incoming staff as well as getting to know them outside the job. For the upcoming year, her goal is to have fun and put in her very best - no one ever said they had to be mutually exclusive!

Sarah was recently described by a 15 year old as a jean jacket wearing, vegetable loving, spotify playlist enthusiast. When not RAing, studying, or laying in her bed enjoying the company of Leslie Knope or Meredith Grey, Sarah is volunteering at Star Learning Center or leading Columbia FemSex. She is very excited to being living on the wellness floor this year!

Meghin will be studying abroad in the fall in India, Vietnam, and South Africa on a comparative Global Health Program, and will be back for all of the FYF fun in the Spring! This will be the third year she lives in the quad -- it's her favorite place to live on campus because of the community and proximity to all of the on-campus happenings. She loves baking, and even more than that, giving baked goods away!

Olivia cannot get enough of her jobs as RA and Barnard tour guide so if she isn't off planning a program for her residents you can probably find her standing on a table giving a tour to perspective students. In her free time Olivia enjoys eating out in New York City, spending time with friends, and convincing people that she is a mermaid.

Martha's extracurricular activities involve being an e-board member for Mujeres, a Latina based organization on campus and doing independent research for her Mellon Mays Fellowship. She loves the shows Lost Girl, Scandal, and Felicity. She advises all first years to try various clubs/organizations on campus. Get involved! This is the best way to meet new interesting people if you find NSOP too overwhelming.

Hana is an Athena Scholar and returning FYF RA. When not studying, Hana loves scouting out the best concerts, catching up on good and bad TV shows, walking through Central Park and exploring the city with friends. With a love of all genres of music, Hana is pursuing a career in the music industry.
